Lady Ear It is extremely difficult for those with undiagnosed hearing loss to function in normal society. From social situations to intimate dinners, those with hearing loss can find conversation full of anxiety and frustration. There is even the possibility untreated hearing loss can cause other major medical conditions, such as anxiety disorder and depression. There are small actions those with hearing loss can take in order to make their life a bit easier, the easiest action being simply letting people know you have trouble hearing. Unfortunately for some, just letting others know of your hearing difficulty can sometimes cause a whole other set of problems.

Along with letting others know you have trouble hearing, you should also ask them to face you while they are speaking. It is sometimes much easier to translate conversation if you can clearly see the lips of the person speaking. Another action that can be taken is to pay particular attention to the facial expressions of the person speaking to you. Most people, when they are speaking, use facial expressions to accent their speech. Many people who are afflicted with hearing loss from a young age learn to efficiently read lips to better understand conversational speech.

One of the difficulties with letting others know you have hearing loss is the tendency for people to shout or speak loudly in an effort to make themselves heard more clearly. Shouting or speaking loudly does not aid the person with hearing loss; it can actually make it harder for someone with hearing loss to understand what is being said. Loud speech can be fuzzy or garbled not more defined. It is important for those with hearing loss to make sure those they are conversing with understand they need to speak slightly more slowly and enunciate their words so they can be understood.
