Why do I need to talk to my Doctor if I have a Hearing Loss? Part 3

Many hearing loss patients will deny they have a medical condition until the condition is well advance, and has begun to affect other aspects of the patient’s life. Unfortunately for most patients, hearing loss will affect personal and professional relationships well before the patient seeks medical assistance. Many patients still, even today, are put off by the stigmata of the bulky traditional hearing aids. Many of the patients who are affected by hearing loss are affected at a much earlier age than in the past. As the modern world gets noisier and busier, hearing loss affects more people than ever before.

Even if someone is not sure they are experiencing hearing loss, maybe they only have to ask someone to repeat what they said occasionally, they should get their hearing tested. Even very minor hearing loss, left untreated for any length of time, can progress to a much more serious condition. Hearing loss is not a condition to be taken lightly or ignored. There have even been medical studies suggesting hearing loss may lead to more serious medical conditions such as memory loss. Memory loss can be aggravated by hearing loss as the brain shift function from memory to concentrating on hearing clearly.  Also other studies have shown that word understanding deteriorates over time.  That means you can hear but not make out the words being said.
